My collaboration with Resonance began in January 2024, creating visual translations for their unique event series across the Calder Valley. Each Resonance gathering brings musicians together for unrepeatable performances which commune with their chosen venues' histories. The buildings themselves become instruments, their natural frequencies providing the foundational ambient tones for each performance.
Working alongside artists like Mary Lattimore, Golden Ratio Frequencies, John Haycock, and Mark Waggner, we create ritualistic experiences that merge sound and light. My role involves crafting site-specific light shows that respond to both architectural character and musical performance.
The technical approach is deliberately alchemical. White light splits through various media into infinite hues, symbolising the transpersonal nature of collective experience. Time delay and feedback effects mirror hermetic principles of 'as above, so below'. Collaborating with SK Projections, we employ arrays of up to eight projectors, creating fully immersive environments through thoughtfully positioned light.
These custom-built animations, controlled live, often integrate work from other visual practitioners. Mark Waggner's cymatics water experiments and Pendafen's oscilloscope patterns blend with my hand-made animations, creating a cohesive visual system that responds to and enhances each unique performance.
